A collection of frameable prints, scenes from Istanbul's Museums. This collection of stuning photographs taken by Erdal Yazici, can be taken apart as individual postcards. Constructed after the conquest of Istanbul by Mehmet II ( The Conquer) between the years 1460 and 1478 and expanded by later additions, Topkapı Palace served as the official center of the empire and the primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans for 380 years. Abandoned after the construction of Dolmabahçe Palace, Topkapı Palace has been well kept throughout history. It is known that some parts of the Palace were opened to visitors with special permits from Sultan Abdulmecid I and Sultan Abdulaziz. Topkapı Palace is the world's oldest and the largest surviving palace. Upon Ataturk's order, the place has been used as a Museum since 1924. The palace has wonderful views of the Golden Horn, The Bosphorus and the Marmara. It is located on the Acropolis hill which was the first construction site of Constantinapolis (Istanbul). The palace was constructed on the extremity of the historical peninsula. It is surrounded by 5 km of walls and has land totaling 700, 000 square meters. Since its initial construction, the palace has been expanded through numerous additions throughout history. |
